Many always talk about life on the water and perhaps dream of having their own houseboat with a nice terrace or balcony someday. But is life on the water as idyllic and dreamlike as many of us imagine.
Our destination (and also the travel recommendation) for the first experiences with this form of living, which is not yet so widespread in Germany, is Amsterdam, the “secret” capital of the Netherlands with its countless canals, canals and a multitude of houseboats, a small part of which is also for rent. The houseboat is located in the center of Amsterdam on the Amstelgracht diagonally opposite the Opera, not far from the famous squares Leidseplein and Rembrandtsplein, where the entire nightlife of Amsterdam takes place.
We can easily park the car at the Opera car park and leave it there for the whole week:
The parking is not really cheap, but in the coming week we will not need the car, because everything is within walking distance
The houseboat is entered in the middle:
The whole boat is 16 meters long and about 4 meters wide
On the left there are three very small bedrooms ( two double beds and one loft bed) and a small bathroom – the houseboat is designed for six people. The first night in the houseboat is unusual and yet surprisingly noisy, as the boat is located in the middle of the center, but after a short acclimatization you fall asleep with the light splashing against the boat extremely relaxed and this is no different in the coming nights.
